Our Story

A Lake Norman Restaurant Built Around Food, Hospitality and Community

Peninsula Prime Seafood & Steakhouse is locally owned and operated by Jim and Robin Gordon, Lake Norman residents who believe a great restaurant should be more than a place to eat.

It should be a place where people feel known. A place where neighbors meet for dinner, couples celebrate important moments, friends gather at the bar and families feel comfortable returning again and again.

Jim and Robin have owned Peninsula Prime since 2021 and assumed full operational control of the restaurant in 2025. Since then, they have worked alongside the culinary and hospitality teams to create a restaurant centered on three commitments: exceptional food, genuine hospitality and a meaningful connection to the Lake Norman community.

Why Peninsula Prime Exists

Peninsula Prime exists to bring people together around an exceptional meal.

Jim and Robin saw an opportunity to create the kind of restaurant they wanted in their own community: refined enough for an anniversary or important business dinner, yet comfortable enough to become part of a guest’s regular routine.

Their vision is not to save hospitality only for special occasions. It is to make every visit feel special, whether a guest is enjoying a prime steak in the dining room, meeting friends for cocktails, listening to live music, having dinner on the patio or gathering with family in one of the restaurant’s private spaces.

The goal is simple: serve food people look forward to and treat guests in a way that makes them want to return.

Rooted in the Lake Norman Community

Jim and Robin moved to the Lake Norman area in 2012 and chose to make it their home. Peninsula Prime reflects their belief that a locally owned restaurant should contribute to the community around it.

That means developing relationships with local farmers, supporting regional producers, listening to guests and creating a gathering place that feels connected to Cornelius and the greater Lake Norman area.

Peninsula Prime is intended to be more than a restaurant people visit once for a celebration. Jim and Robin want it to be a familiar neighborhood destination where guests are welcomed by name and where trust is earned one visit at a time.

From the Farm, the Coast and the Butcher’s Block

The food at Peninsula Prime begins with respect for the ingredients.

The culinary team pairs exceptional seafood and carefully selected prime steaks with seasonal vegetables, fresh micro-greens and thoughtfully sourced ingredients. Whenever possible, the restaurant works directly with local and regional growers whose standards reflect its own.

One of those partners is Carolina Freedom Farm, a family-operated farm in Taylorsville, North Carolina. The farm supplies locally grown micro-greens and fresh produce cultivated for freshness, nutrition and flavor.

Working closely with local farms allows the kitchen to build dishes around vegetables and greens that are harvested at their peak rather than forcing ingredients into the menu simply because they are available through a large commercial supply chain.

The result is a farm-to-table philosophy that can be seen and tasted on the plate: exceptional seafood, properly prepared steaks, seasonal produce and food made with care rather than unnecessary processing.

Food Made With Intention

At Peninsula Prime, quality is not limited to the centerpiece of the plate.

The kitchen prepares dishes from scratch and continually looks for better ingredients and better methods. That commitment extends from the restaurant’s steaks and seafood to its sauces, vegetables, side dishes and seasonal features.

The menu balances familiar steakhouse favorites with thoughtful culinary innovation. Guests can enjoy an indulgent dinner, choose a lighter meal or explore seasonal dishes inspired by what local growers are harvesting.

Rather than chasing trends, the culinary team focuses on food that is flavorful, satisfying and prepared with purpose.

Hospitality That Feels Personal

Peninsula Prime believes service is something a restaurant provides. Hospitality is how it makes people feel.

That philosophy shapes every part of the guest experience, from the first greeting to the final course. The team pays attention to the details, listens to guest preferences and looks for opportunities to make each visit more comfortable and memorable.

True hospitality also means recognizing that different guests may need different things. Peninsula Prime is proud to be an autism-friendly dining destination and works to accommodate sensory sensitivities and individual needs. Sensory kits and picture-based menus are available, and families may contact the restaurant before their visit or speak with a member of the team upon arrival.

The objective is not simply to serve as many guests as possible. It is to welcome each guest as an individual.

Our Culinary and Leadership Team

Jim and Robin set the vision for Peninsula Prime, but bringing that vision to life requires an entire team.

The kitchen is led by Head Chef David Castillo, whose culinary team is responsible for preparing the restaurant’s prime steaks, fresh seafood, scratch-made dishes and rotating seasonal features. The front-of-house leadership and service teams work alongside the kitchen to create an experience in which excellent food and attentive hospitality support one another.

From the chefs preparing each plate to the hosts, servers, bartenders and support staff caring for the dining room, every team member contributes to the experience Peninsula Prime promises its guests.

The standard is not perfection for its own sake. It is consistency, care and a shared desire to make every visit better than the last.

A Place for the Way Lake Norman Gathers

There is no single “right” way to experience Peninsula Prime.

For some guests, it is an intimate date-night restaurant. For others, it is the place to celebrate a birthday, anniversary or family milestone. It may be a comfortable bar for cocktails after work, a patio dinner with friends, an important business meal or a private gathering with the people who matter most.

Peninsula Prime welcomes longtime Lake Norman residents, newcomers, visiting families, business travelers, couples, groups and guests with individual dietary or sensory needs.

The occasion may change, but the commitment does not: thoughtful food, genuine hospitality and a place at the table where every guest can feel welcome.

Our Story Is Still Being Written

Peninsula Prime continues to evolve as Jim, Robin and their team listen to guests, strengthen relationships with local farmers and look for new ways to serve the Lake Norman community.

The menu will change with the seasons. New dishes will be introduced. Partnerships will grow. Guests will celebrate new milestones.

But the purpose of Peninsula Prime will remain the same: to bring people together through exceptional food, locally connected ingredients and genuine hospitality.

We look forward to welcoming you.
